Dr Lewis Owen is a Lecturer in Metallurgy Characterisation at the University of Sheffield and a Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellow. His research looks at the atomic scale structure of materials, and the techniques and methods that we use to understand this structure. In 2023, Lewis was awarded the IOM3 Silver medal in recognition of outstanding contribution to a field of interest within the materials, minerals and mining sector. 

Lewis is particularly keen on science communication and outreach, and regularly gives talks at Science festivals, open days and in schools. He was awarded the Parkin Prize awarded by the British Crystallographic Association (BCA) to a young Crystallographer who has been recognised for outstanding contributions to promoting science, raising public awareness of science or teaching crystallography/science. 

Outside of research, Lewis is a keen musician and actor, and an avid podcast listener!
