Hi, I’m Dr. Lewis Owen and I'm a lecturer at the University of Sheffield.

I started my research career as a chemist but then moved into materials science now whilst a lot of people might have heard of chemistry not as many people have heard of materials science. 

So what exactly is materials science? How does it work and how does it shape the world around us? Well that is what we're going to explore in this series. With the help of some my colleagues we're going to follow the materials life cycle from materials conception through manufacture and testing, to end of life.

So join us on this journey of discovery as we delve into the world of materials and unlock what it means.
